GRVAS is comprised of adults from 18-80 years old who act as Crew Chiefs, EMTs and drivers. We also have a group of nearly 30 high school students in various stages of the training process who dedicate countless hours training, developing and working under the supervision of adult EMTs. Members take shifts during the day and oftentimes need to leave work or school to perform their duties. Other members ride at night and regularly respond to emergencies in the middle of the night, but then go to the office or school in the morning. Our adult members are expected to excel in their specific roles, and our high school students are treated as adults and expected to participate in every part of running our Squad. Being part of the GRVAS not only was part of my decision-making process that led me to become a police officer with the Glen Ridge Police Department, but also provided me with some essential skills that I use on a daily basis. We work closely with the GRPD and provide a critical element of the Incident Command Structure for race day. Additional volunteers are required to stand-by games in the event of an injury to a player and provide EMS treatment and transport as necessary.
