Volunteer with GRVAS

The Glen Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Squad is an entirely volunteer organization. Our members provide pre-hospital emergency medical care and transport for the town ofGlen ridge and our neighboring communittees. This service is provided 24 hours a day, 7days a week. We're always looking for volunteers to join the squad.

When an individual becomes a member of the squad, the GRVAS takes responsibility for providing the uniform, equipment and all the training required to be an active responder. Although most of our members are state or nationally certified EMTs, some have volunteered their time as drivers and are satisfied to have the CPR training and emergency vehicle CEVO training. Training expenses are either covered up front by the squad, or reimbursed after successful completion.

We're also looking for volunteer drivers for our new ambulatory patient transports.

On average each active riding member rides approximately 8 to 12 hours each week. Shifts are divided between daytime nighttime hours, 7am to 7pm mark the transistions between shifts. Each shift, whether it is daytime or nighttime, is staffed by three members, two EMTs and a driver. They're often accompanied by a fourth member, usually an EMT-in-training.

Our volunteers pick a time during the week they can commit to responding to calls, and generally ride that same time each week so that there is weekly continuity. All of the members quickly substitute and cover for each other in the event of scheduling conflicts. Members who are Glen Ridge residents typically respond from home. Glen Ridge high school members respond from school for day shifts. Squad members from other towns stay at squad headquarters for their shifts.
